MEET THE DIRECTOR

PROF. OLAYINKA O. AJANI

Director CUCIRF

Professor Olayinka Oyewale AJANI has established himself both as an academic and a researcher in the areas of Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry. He obtained his Bachelor and Master’s degree in Chemistry in 2000 and 2005 respectively from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, Osun State, Nigeria. His M.Sc dissertation was entitled synthesis and evaluation of antimicrobial activities of 2-quinoxalinone-3-hydrazone and 1-(2-quinoxalinone-3-yl)pyrazole derivatives.

In 2012, Prof. Ajani obtained his Doctoral degree in Chemistry from Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria with research focus on synthesis of functionalized and biologically active sulphonamide scaffolds. The doctoral thesis was titled synthesis of new N,N-disubstituted aryl- and alkylaryl sulphonamides and their antimicrobial properties. He carried out his Postdoctoral Fellowship at Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Philipps University, Marburg, Germany under the research group of Professor Martin Schlitzer.

Prof. Ajani is a recipient of many prestigious awards some of which are German DAAD Short Research Visit Fellowship, TWAS Research Grant for individual Scientist and 2009 CAS-TWAS PG Fellowship Award. He has also distinguished himself as a prolific author by earning a certificate of recognition as a top cited author in 2010-2011 from Elsevier Publisher (Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry).
